Notes: Abstract With the inclusion of a single gluon magnetic exchange term, the M.I.T. static spherical cavity spectrum of $$q^2 \bar q^2 $$ bag eigenstates contains a pair of nearly degenerateJ P=0+ states in both theI=0 and 1 channels; possibly associated with theS *(980) and δ(980). The effect of pair annihilation-induced mixing on these states is investigated and is shown to result in radical changes. For small mixing the bag energy curves have two minima. As the mixing strength is increased, one of these minima disappears and is replaced by a new higher lying state.

Notes: Abstract Schur's lemma and the properties of circular matrices are used to establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the finite-dimensional irreducible matrix representations of an arbitrary groupG to admit real coupling (or Clebsch-Gordan) coefficients. The Pontryagin-Van Kampen and Tannaka-Krein duality theorems are found to be of considerable value in implementing the condition, which requires that complex conjugation effects an automorphism on the group of all matrices having the same reduction of their tensor products as the matrix representations ofG. This result is noted to be relevant to a generalization of the Frobenius-Schur invariant.

Notes: We establish a theorem which gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of matrix irreps of a finite group to admit real coupling (Clebsch-Gordan) coefficients. The proof is based on the method used by Feit to prove that a full set of coupling coefficients for a finite group determines the group up to isomorphism. A consequence of the theorem is that a finite group with real coupling coefficients is necessarily quasiambivalent. The theorem is used to demonstrate that real coupling coefficients do not exist for the point-group hierarchies T ⊃ D2 and I ⊃ T or for the double-group hierarchies I* ⊃ D3*, I* ⊃ D5*, and O* ⊃ D3*.
