The construction and characteristics of a photoelectrochemical cell, a potentiostat, and a monochromator-microcomputer interface are described. The three-electrode system is designed for photoelectrochemical studies on transparent electrodes of metals and semiconductors and is capable of detecting photocurrents in the nanoampere range on various thin-film modified electrodes. The cell can also be used for the gathering of absorption spectroscopic data. A comparison with another system is made, with emphasis on the advantages of our system. Examples of typical results are given. An integrated and flexible software, whose main features are briefly described, is used for the control of the setup.
