Notes: [Auszug] These feather lipids were found to contain cholestanol, cholestanylstearate and other steroids. Chole-stanol and its esters contaminated by cholesterol were found in all fourteen species examined in amounts of about 7-15 per cent of the total feather lipids expressed as cholestanol1. Non-steroid ...

Notes: [Auszug] Trichosurus vulpecula, the common Australian opossum, has a well-developed pouch which shows marked reactions towards the administration of œstrogens. After the injection of small doses of œstrogen (200–1,000 I.U.), development of the pouch and mammary glands becomes evident, ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN contrast to the generally accepted theory that progesterone has only definite effects in females, we have found that this hormone produces readily demonstrable changes in the intact male as well as in the female Australian opossum (Trichosurus vulpecula). In the immature female ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE pouch of the sexually mature, non-pregnant common Australian phalanger or possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) shows a marked reaction towards the administration of gonadotropic hormone obtained from human pregnancy urine.
Notes: Summary A method for vascular reconstruction by means of autologous fascia lata was developed on the assumption that autologous material is superior to homotransplants or prosthetic grafts. In four patients with arteriosclerotic occlusion of the superficial femoral artery a femoropopliteal bypass with a tube made of autologous fascia lata was implanted, because no suitable vein was available. Three transplants were patent 15, 12, and 7 months after the operation. In one case thrombotic occlusion occurred in the distal portion of the anastomosis after four months, due to a technical mistake.

Notes: [Auszug] KALA-AZAR is difficult to transmit to laboratory animals, with the exception of the hamster (Cricetulus griseus). This rodent, however, is not available in many countries. Notes: [Auszug] THE female of Trichosurus vulpecula, the common Australian phalanger or possum, has a well-developed pouch, while the male possesses in the corresponding region a large pendulous scrotum.
