Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The bond energies of oxygen have been determined by thermodesorption from Period IV transition metal oxides, both after treatment with oxygen and under steady state conditions of the catalytic oxidation of CO. With the exception of V2O5, there are several (2–3) forms of adsorbed oxygen with different bond energies on the surface of the oxide treated with oxygen.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract On the basis of the kinetic law of isotope exchange, it has been established that the heteroexchange of O2 occurs via two different mechanisms: 1/reversible adsorption resulting in the formation of two atomic species with different bonding strengths, and 2/formation of a triatomic complex from the oxygen molecule and an oxygen atom on the surface. Simultaneously, the homoexchange of molecular oxygen may take place by an associative mechanism.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Molecular oxygen adsorbs on gold surfaces at elevated temperatures (T≥900 K) forming a surface gold oxide which does not decompose in vacuum at T=1000 K. Atomic oxygen adsorbs at T=300 K and completely desorbs from the surface at T=500–600 K (Edes=12–15 kcal/mol) without trandformation to surface oxide oxygen.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The specific catalytic activity of supported silver at equivalent amounts of reagents is approximately 10 times lower than that of silver powder. This is due to the influence of the reaction medium on the catalyst: under the reaction conditions, microcrystals of silver are extensively oxidized and lose their activity. In the steady state the reaction proceeds mainly on large silver crystallites, which remain in the metallic state under reaction conditions. At excess carbon monoxide, no significant influence of the metal dispersity on the catalytic activity is observed.

Notes: Abstract An acrolein-containing reaction mixture reduces V5+ to V4+, accompanied by decomposition of the ammonium salt of vanadium-molybdenum-silicon heteropolyacid (HPA) to form a compound with the tentative composition of VMo3O11+x, which is the active component of the catalyst.
