Notes: Lipoproteins are plant-derived surface-active biopolymers, which act as emulsifying as well as viscosity-enhancing agents in oil-in-water emulsions. Depending on the degree of hydrolization, lipoproteins are dispersible or even soluble in water. In the presence of low to medium polar oils, lipoproteins are adsorbed and align at the oil-water interface, whereas in mixtures with high polar oils the lipoproteins are repelled from the oil-water interface. The water-dispersible lipoproteins show higher interfacial activity than the hydrolysates.Lipoproteins bear a negative electric charge in aqueous dispersions at pH 6.5, which is probably the reason for the stabilization of oil droplets against coalescence. Lipoprotein creams were characterized in terms of particle size, rheology, and emulsion stability against sedimentation, which was evaluated by a near-infrared sedimentometer. After topical application, emulsion stability breaks down and an emulsion film is formed on the skin surface. Lipoprotein creams cause a distinct increase in skin pliability and skin moisture and show excellent skin compatibility. In a home use test the panelists appreciated the cosmetic and caring properties of the lipoprotein cream.

Notes: Abstract Results of theoretical and experimental investigations of the thermal behaviour of InGa-AsP/InP laser diodes with a ridge-waveguide structure are presented. It is shown that, in contrast to GaAlAs/GaAs laser diodes, most of the heat flux is carried through the InP-substrate, less than 1/4 through the ridge. The temperature rise in the active region was determined and the thermal resistance calculated for various structure and bond parameters. The theoretical and experimental results fit very well. The change of the thermal resistance compared to a norm value of 67 K/W with variation of structure parameters is discussed. It is strongly affected by the device length, the ridge width and the bonding parameters.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Mittels Messung thermischer Einschwingvorgänge wurde die thermische Impedanz von Laserdioden bestimmt.

Notes: Abstract The thermal impedance of laser diodes was determined by the measurement of thermal transients. The parameters of an equivalent R-C network were synthesized from the transient response. The network was compared with the real layer structure of the device. The effects of structure, mounting and aging on the temperature distribution were investigated with this method.

Notes: Abstract The effects of different substrates (GaAs, GaSb and InP) on the thermal properties of laser diodes with a ridge-waveguide structure are presented. Laser diodes with the same basic geometry exhibit different thermal resistances. The reason is therefore the difference in thermal conductivity of the substrates and the active layer compounds. This leads to different temperature distributions in the structures. The theoretical results were supported by experimental data.
