Notes:
The dispersion of artificially produced softwood pulp flocs in controlled, plane, turbulent Couette flow was studied by using both monocular and stereoscopic film techniques. The mechanisms of controlled floc formation and of dispersion are proposed. For the latter, two mechanisms were observed, one global that involves deformation, breaking, and fragmentation, and one local that involves surfac erosion. The effect of the flow field stress level on the time and rate of dispersion is presented.
