Notes: Abstract Background. The revascularization process of the femoral head in Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease has not been well studied on Doppler images. We incorporated two relatively new developments in ultrasound: 3D power Doppler imaging combined with the use of contrast agents.¶Patients and methods. We studied two children with unilateral Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease through anterior-sagittal approaches with pre- and post-contrast power Doppler images, acquired in 2D and 3D planes.¶Results. In one patient, intraosseous vessels were detected only in the pathological femoral head both pre- and post-contrast administration. In the other, no flow was identifiable without the use of contrasts.¶Conclusion. The use of ultrasound contrast agents combined with 3D imaging modalities offers new alternative methods for visualization of intraosseous vascularity.

Notes: Summary High-resolution duplex ultrasound was used to demonstrate vascular dilatation in the gallbladder wall in eight patients with portal vein thrombosis. Gallbladder thickening, combined with a higher incidence of gallstone disease in patients with chronic hepatic disease can be misinterpreted as acute cholecystitis. The Doppler is helpful in detecting the vascular cause of the gallbladder wall thickening thus helping to reduce the frequency of inappropriate cholecystectomy.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Stream velocity fluctuations in the wake behind a circular cylinder and behind an airfoil has been investigated. Experiments were performed in a water tunnel equipped with a laser doppler velocimeter connected with a real time spectrum analyzer. The airfoil was tested in the range of Reynolds numbers between 4000 and 12000 for various incidence angles. The results of the tests proved: a) a linear relationship between Reynolds and Roshko numbers at constant incidence angles; b) Roshko number versus incidence angle presents a maximum at constant Reynolds number; the maximum is reached for an incidence angle near 0°. Moreover, Roshko number assumes a nearly constant trend for high positive and high negative incidence angles. Comparisons with results from other authors have been made, showing actually a good agreement.

Notes: A theoretical analysis has been developed to study the crosstalk in crossed bundles of parallel lines. The model is based on the theory of the coupled transmission lines and the resulting system of differential equations has been solved by means of the finite difference, time-domain (FDTD) method. The frequency response of the network has been achieved by the discrete fourier transform (DFT) algorithm; measurements, performed with a vectorial network analyser, show a good agreement with numerical simulation.
