Notes: Abstract Based on aπ mR -type variational formulation featuring a cross-depth layered model in conjunction with a mechanical sub-element for simulating the material constitution, the cross-depth plasticity development of the Reissner-Mindlin plate is investigated by following the loading process. A 4-node quadrilateral hybrid-stressc 0-continuous plate-bending element HPT-9β is formulated. Numerical examinations demonstrate its remarkable characteristic behavior in being free from spurious kinematic mode, capable of alleviating “locking” difficulties as the thin plate limit is approached and providing numerical results with remarkable accuracy and computational efficiency over Spilker's counterpart LH4. An elasto-plastic analysis of Reissner-Mindlin plates has justified the validity and effectiveness of the present scheme in depicting the cross-depth plasticity development following the loading process.

Notes: [Auszug] The fundamental building block of the copper oxide superconductors is a Cu4O4 square plaquette. The plaquettes in most of these materials are slightly distorted to form a rectangular lattice, for which an influential theory predicts that high-transition-temperature ...

Notes: The lattice Anderson model is considered with two nondegenerate orbitals per site (c and f ). The Hamiltonian matrix is constructed in a localized representation on a four site, tetrahedral cluster. All the eigenvalues are obtained for any occupancy by explicit diagonalization, using symmetry to reduce the problem to manageable size. Thermodynamic functions are calculated. Emphasis in this work is placed on the strong interaction–weak hybridization sector of the model. The behavior of the model is quite complex, with five different regions delineated.

Notes: Abstract The Hubbard model with nearest neighbor hopping, and one type of orbital is applied to clusters of 4 and 5 sites. Results are reported for the ground state as a function of the number of electrons. A rather complicated dependence of the spin of the ground state on occupation number, geometry, and model parameters is found. Ground state energies are compared. The excitation spectrum is illustrated in a particular example.

Notes: From a unified viewpoint, this article establishes the practical and general constant stress patch test conditions (PTC) for analysing and ensuring convergence or robustness of some multivariable finite element (MFE) formulations, such as hybrid-mixed and incompatible element formulations. The proposed PTC are applied to develop new general MFE formulations which pass PTC and a family of corresponding MFE for stress analysis. Several numerical examples are also given. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
