Notes: The infrared spectra of the ν3, ν4, and ν6 bands of formaldehyde in the region from 890 cm−1 to 1580 cm−1 have been obtained at high resolution using tunable diode laser (TDL) and Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The transition frequencies have been analyzed using a Hamiltonian including terms through sextic in centrifugal distortion and including five interstate vibration–rotation coupling terms. Excited state pure rotational transitions are also included in the data, and their frequencies are reproduced well. Individual measured line intensities are used to determine dipole derivatives and band strengths using the fully coupled, asymmetric top eigenvectors.

Notes: Recent data obtained from gas phase Raman spectra of C3H6 and C3D6 has been used to refine the force field of cyclopropane. Values are reported for the interaction constants involving CH2 group vibrations.

Notes: The Raman spectra of liquid ethane, ethane-d3 and ethane-d6 were recorded and analysed. The CH3 and CD3 stretching regions were computer resolved using Cauchy-Gaussian and Voigt functions to account for asymmetric band shapes. Multiple vibrational resonances were investigated using the wavenumbers and observed intensities in these regions. The developed basis functions show strong mixing of the levels in these regions. In general the resonances appear to be less strong in the liquid phase than reported in previous studies of the gaseous state. Some new assignments in the liquid-state spectra of ethanes could be suggested.

Notes: Infrared and Raman spectra of polycrystalline s-triazine and s-triazine-d3 have been recorded over a wide range of temperatures. The spectra of the high temperature phase are in agreement with predictions based on the reported D3d6 rhombohedral crystal structure. The spectra of the low temperature monoclinic phase are compatible with a unit cell of symmetry C2h with two molecules in Cs or C2 sites. Possible space groups are C2hi; i =1,2,3,4, or 6. The higher order nature of the rhombohedral to monoclinic phase transition is indicated by the gradual increase in splitting of degenerate modes in the infrared and Raman spectra of both C3N3H3 and C3N3D3 as the temperature was lowered. From studies of these splittings up to the phase change, the transition temperature was found to be 200±5K for C3N3H3 and 190±5K for C3N3D3.
