Notes: Continuous-wave (cw) and pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance (pulsed EPR) techniques were used to investigate spin dynamics in moderately and slightly doped poly(o-methoxyaniline), a polyaniline derivative. EPR line shapes, measured by standard cw EPR, and relaxation rates, measured by electron spin–echo methods, were studied as a function of temperature, in the ranges 6–300 K (cw) and 6–100 K (pulsed). Experimental results were explained by a model which considered two types of spins: isolated polarons in an insulating matrix, and delocalized ones in conductive islands (clusters) formed by dopant aggregates. Experimental data agreed with the assumption that EPR spectra are generated by isolated polarons coupled to the clusters by dipole–dipole interactions. Furthermore, some experimental evidence suggests that spin dynamic within the clusters, which play an essential role in the interpretation of the EPR results, is determined by exchange interactions. Consequences of the proposed model are discussed. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A mutual inductance bridge which may be used for automatic measurement of ac magnetic susceptibilities from 4 K to room temperature at frequencies up to 1 kHz is described. An alternative and new arrangement of the probe is described in details. The coil set is kept at room temperature and moves in such a way to place the sample in the center of each of the secondary coils. The sample, motionless, has its temperature controlled by a helium flow refrigerator. Use of a magnetic shield minimizes coupling of the probe with nearby magnetic materials. The movement of the probe and the operation of the bridge are fully controlled by a personal computer. This probe has a sensitivity of 10−7 emu in an ac magnetic field of 8 G rms and frequency of 100 Hz. The frequency range employed can easily be extended to 10 kHz without seriously affecting the accuracy of the measurements. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: In this paper, important connections between the two main contingents of the autonomic nervous system, intrinsic and extrinsic visceral plexus were analysed. Concerning heart innervation, the territories of extrinsic innervation are very important in the treatment of congenital or acquired cardiopathy, thoracic neoplasia and aortic arch persistence, among others. This research compared young and adult extrinsic cardiac innervation and described the surgical anatomic nerve segments. Animals were perfused with a 10% formaldehyde solution in PBS (0.1 m) (pH 7.4) and submitted to macro- and meso-scopic dissection immersed in 60% acetic acid alcoholic solution and 20% hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution. The nerve segments were assigned as: right vagus nerve segment, left vagus nerve segment, right middle cervical ganglion segment, left middle cervical ganglion segment, right caudal laryngeal nerve segment, left caudal laryngeal nerve segment, right phrenic nerve segment and left phrenic nerve segment.

Notes: The morpho-functional relationships between the hepato-duodenal ligament and the superior part of the duodenum are analysed. Twenty-four specimens were removed during necropsies of adults and prepared according to various mesoscopic, microscopic, and ultramicroscopical methods, i. e., whole-mounts, membrane preparations, thick and thin histological sections, and polarized light, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy were employed. The hepato-duodenal ligament is formed by longitudinally elongated, type I collagen fiber bundles which are interlinked by more delicate bundles of type III collagen fibers. Longitudinally disposed elastic fibers are the principal component of the elastic fiber system of the ligament. These are in continuity with the elaunin and oxytalan fibers which are intermingled with the muscle cells of the vessels and duodenal wall, and fat cells of the ligament.Part of the muscle bundles of the external, longitudinal, muscle layer of the Cluodenum is anchored in the adventitial and subserosal collagen and elastic fiber framework of the organ while part inserts directly into the fibrous framework of the ligament. The fibrous system of the ligament is continuous with that of the subserosa and adventitia of the duodenum. © 1995 WiIey-Liss, Inc.
