Butanon, Diäthylketon, Di-n-propylketon und Dibenzylketon reagieren mit Benzaldehyd und Ammoniak in Gegenwart von Ammoniumsalzen (Ammoniumchlorid, -nitrat, -rhodanid und -polysulfid) unter Bildung von 2.6-Diphenyl-piperidonen-(4). Der Hofmannsche Abbau des 2.6-Diphenyl-3.5-dimethylpiperidons-(4) führt im Sinne einer Stevenschen Umlagerung zum Cyclopentanon-Derivat IV.
