Notes: Looks at the problems and fears surrounding banks and financial institutions with regard to the Y2K computer systems date programs. Discusses the possible scenarios for the midnight of 31 December 1999 and that even with all the planning involved, no-one was sure of the outcomes and the implications were many. States only that no two banks will experience the same effects. Further states that all over the world the arrangements varied from the well prepared to the slaphappy. Closes in saying that all financial institutions will be very pleased if 2000 brings an uneventful start for themselves and their customers.

Notes: Abstract The relationship of temperament to different patterns and types of alcohol abuse has received much attention over the last decade in order to provide clues to matching patients optimally to treatment strategies. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of temperament with a number of relevant substance abuse characteristics in a substance abusing population. One hundred forty-five male veterans were interviewed on their lifetime use of substances and on their psychiatric symptoms, problems associated with use, context, and family history of substance abuse. Subjects filled out the TPQ and the MPQ, which were subjected to factor analysis and revealed four factors: (1) Negative Affectivity/Impulsivity, (2) Positive Affectivity/Sociability, (3) Persistence/Achievement, and (4) Constraint. There was partial support for the hypotheses. Impulsivity was negatively correlated with age of onset and positively correlated with substance-related problems and a family history of substance abuse. Subjects with a history of depression scored significantly lower on the Positive Affectivity/Sociability factor than those who had not experienced a significant depression. Individuals who used alone scored lower on this factor than those who used in social contexts. The temperament factors of Persistence/Achievement and Constraint were, for the most part, unrelated to substance abuse.

Notes: Depletion-mode 4H-SiC FETs were fabricated for use as harsh environment gas sensors. To enable sensitivity to NOx, O2 and H2 gases, metal oxide catalysts such as InOx were integratedinto the gate of the device. The FETs had a total area of approximately 1 mm2. Devices withvarious gate widths and lengths were fabricated and tested, with sensor performance of 5% orgreater in current change from the baseline resulting from designs having a length to width ratio ofaround 50

Notes: Abstract Male mice, genetically selected for differences in brain weight or from a heterogeneous (HET) stock, were used to explore potential interactions between genotype and exposure to lead as manifested in activity. At the time of birth dams and their pups were given either water or a 0.5% lead acetate solution as the sole source of fluid. Fluid conditions remained constant throughout the experiment. The effects of chronic lead on activity in young adult mice depended on the genotype of the individual. Specifically, in an open field, HET mice exposed to lead tended to be more active than their control counterparts. Low-and high-brain weight lead-exposed mice at times were hypoactive but this effect depended on the specific nature of the measure.

Notes: Abstract Nonanastomotic aneurysms of arterial prosthetic grafts are an infrequent but well-documented complication of arterial bypass surgery. Several cases of nonanastomotic aneurysm formation of the external velour-type Dacron graft have been reported. We present a case of an external velour ringed Dacron (Sauvage EXS) femoropopliteal bypass graft with multiple nonanastomotic aneurysms. An extensive review of the English literature shows this to be the first reported case of multiple aneurysms occurring in this type of prosthesis.
