The collision-induced mass spectra of the o-methyl and o-ethylphenoxide anions show loss of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, respectively. These processes are rationalized in terms of a reversible rearrangement o-RC6H4O- ⇌ [(C6H4)-OR] (R = alkyl).
