Notes: Abstract A comprehensive model forα particle induced reactions, recently proposed by two of the authors, has been improved and utilised in the analysis of proton andα particle spectra, angular distributions, excitation functions, spectra of neutrons emitted in the decay of continuum states on nuclei with 50〈A〈230 atα energies varying from 50 to 160 MeV. A unique set of average parameters has been used in all the calculations. Most of them were the same utilised in previous analyses of nucleon andπ − induced reactions. The energy and mass dependence (which turns out to be quite weak) of the additional parameters which are needed to describe theα particle induced reactions has been determined. The comparison with experimental data shows that the model discussed allows one to reproduce successfully the cross sections ofα particle induced reactions with an accuracy comparable to the one already gained in the analysis of nucleon andπ − reactions with the Exciton Model.

Notes: Abstract Fissilities induced by the absorption ofπ − at rest in nuclei ranging from rare earth region to Uranium are evaluated by means of the Exciton Model. The theoretical results satisfactorily reproduce the experimental findings provided the ratioa f/an is greater than unity and equal to 1.1.

Notes: Abstract A high resolution experiment, using the BIG KARL spectrometer has been made to identify the levels of 141 Pr excited in the 144 Nd(p,α) reaction at 25 MeV. It has been found that only levels with a dominant single proton component are populated with appreciable intensity.

Notes: Abstract Experimental evidence is presented that the144Nd(p, α)141Pr reaction excites residual nucleus levels with a dominant single proton configuration, suggesting a contribution from knock-on mechanism. The angular distributions of theα-particles populating these levels have been analysed by means of one step pick-up (both in finite and zero range approximation) and knock-on theories, assuming that the spectroscopic amplitudes for the two processes are proportional to the spectroscopic amplitudes for proton transfer in pick-up and stripping reactions, respectively. The results obtained suggest the importance of knock-on contributions to some of the transitions.
