Summary This paper is concerned with the chemical analysis of the palmar aponeuroses in nine cases of Dupuytren's contracture. The analysis included the glucuronic acid (acid polysaccharides), the aldoses (aldopolysaccharides), arginine and tyrosine (index of protein content), and hydroxyproline (index of the content of collagen). The values of these analyses were compared with others obtained from different tissue specimens taken from hands of control subjects (flexor tendon, skin, palmar aponeurosis). An additional comparison was made with the data of another study concerned with the aging of different types of connective tissue. The tendon-like cords of the contracture disclosed high contents of polysaccharides and tyrosine, commensurate with their development over a long period. They showed an unique rate of formation, which distinguished them as pathological growths and differentiated them from normal tendinous tissue. The portions of palmar fascia spared by the Dupuytren's contracture may not be differentiated from the palmar aponeuroses of normal persons of the same age.
Notizen:
