Description / Table of Contents:
Reactions of Cycloolefins in the Presence of Ethyl Bromide and Alkylaluminium CompoundsIf cyclohexene (1) is added below 100°C to a mixture of ethyl bromide (2) and diethylaluminium bromide (3), ethylene is formed as vent gas and ethylcyclohexane (6), 1,1-diethylcyclohexane (7), ethylbicyclohexyl 8, bicyclohexyl (9), and higher molecular products of 1 can be isolated. - In the mixture of 2 and 3, and in the presence of an excess of triethylaluminium (5), compound 1 is substituted to give ethylcyclohexene and ethane as vent gas. Cyclooctene, cyclooctadiene, and 3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydro-4,7-methanoindene are ethylated and hydrogenated, the latter by opening of the methylene bridge to form 4-methylhydrindan.
Notes:
