Notes:
Abstract The influence of experimentally induced changes of skin blood flow on electrical skin resistance (DC, constant current method) and on electromyogram derived from M. biceps brachii by means of surface EMG electrodes was investigated in six healthy subjects. The electrical skin resistance was little changed by a rise in skin blood flow but the mean bioelectrical muscle tension showed a significant decrease of about 8% compared to control values. The cause of the tension reduction could be an electrical shunt in the skin. The possibility of such error should be considered in electrophysiological measurements utilizing surface electrodes.
