Notes: Abstract Theγ radiation following thermal neutron capture in104Ru has been investigated through singles, coincidence, and angular correlation measurements in order to solve existing discrepancies and to complete the knowledge about the transitional odd-N nucleus 44 105 Ru61. The resulting level andγ-decay scheme is found to be very similar to that of the odd-Z transitional nucleus 61 149 Pm88. Between the 11/2−, 15/2−, and 19/2− states which are interpreted as members of the decoupled band, built on the unique parity 11/2− single particle state, low spin states of negative parity are found at surprisingly low excitation energies above the 11/2− state. In the frame of the particleplus-rotor model their positions would require a sharp decrease of the rotational parameter with increasing collective angular momentum of the soft core.

Notes: Abstract An in-beam γ-ray study with the144Sm (α, p4n) reaction has established the high-spin states up to 5 MeV excitation and I=35/2 in the N=80 nucleus143Eu. The observed yrast states show the typical irregular pattern of a spherical nucleus, with frequent decay branchings and often dominant dipole de-excitation. The level spectrum is in qualitative accord with the coupling of the h11/2 proton particle to the known yrast levels of the142Sm core nucleus. Only in a few cases specific configuration assignments are made.

Notes: Abstract The properties of the triplet of low-lying states in101Mo have been studied through spectroscopy of theγ radiation following thermal neutron capture in100Mo and β− decay of101Nb and through a measurement of the proton angular distributions in the100Mo(d,p) reaction with 14 MeV deuteron energy. The half-lives of the 13.5 keV state and the 57.0 keV 5/2+ state have been measured as 226(7) and 133(7)ns, respectively. These values and the quadrupole/dipole mixing ratios of the 13.5 keV and 43.5 keV transitions yield spin and parity 3/2+ for the 13.5 keV level. The E2 components in the 13.5 (3/2+ →1/2+) and 43.5 keV (5/2+→3/2+) transitions are ≦ 8·10−4 and 54(9)%, respectively. The possibility of an additional state near to the 57.0 keV level is discussed. IBFM/PTQM calculations, taking into consideration the transitional character of the100Mo boson core, account for the electromagnetic-transition and transfer-reaction pattern of the triplet of states.

Notes: Abstract A high-sensitivityγ-spectroscopic study of the149Hoπh 11/2 andπs 1/2 β-decays using mass separated sources has located dominant 0+ → 1+ GT decay strength associated with decay of pairedh 11/2 protons, leading to 3п-states in the149Dy daughter nucleus. In theirγ-decay low-lying149Dy levels characteristic of anN=83 nucleus are excited. They include theνf 7/2,νp 3/2,νh 9/2 andνp 1/2 single particle- and theνs 1 2/−1 andνd 3 2/−1 two-particle one-hole states, as well as the νf 7/2 × 3− andνf 7/2 × 2+ particle-phonon multiplets. A synopsis is given of these excitations in theN=83 isotones from149Nd to153Yb. The149Dy GT decay strength is discussed in terms of the147Tb82 and148Dy82 decays. The strength function results are also compared with independent149Ho 11/2− decay data from the literature based on totalγ-ray absorption measurements.

Notes: Abstract Gamma-gamma angular correlation measurements have been performed on the cascades 393-263 keV, 413-263 keV, and 316–469 keV emitted in105Rh after theΒ-decay of105Ru. From the measured angular correlation coefficients the spins of the states at 469 keV, 785 keV, and 806 keV and the multipolarities of the involved gamma-rays are determined.

Notes: Abstract An upper limit of 1.5×10−4 was measured for the branching ratio of the doublephoton to single-photon transition from the 2.2 MeV np capture state to the ground state of the deuteron. This result was obtained in a coincidence experiment with two Ge(Li) detectors. Based on the total cross section of 334.2 mb for the thermal neutron capture in hydrogen, the upper limit corresponds to a cross section of 49 μb for the two-photon emission in the energy region 46 keV〈E γ〈2177 keV.

Notes: Abstract An (α,p6n) in-beam γ-ray experiment has established the high-spin states of the N=78 nucleus141Eu up to I=35/2− at 4.4 MeV excitation. The levels above 3 MeV involve the couplings of the h11/2 valence proton to either two aligned h11/2 proton particles or two aligned h11/2 neutron holes. The observed spin sequences are in accord with the shell model for these couplings.

Notes: Abstract Studies of the149Ho 11/2− and 1/2+ GT-decays using on-line mass separation have established in the N=83149Dy nucleus the single neutron excitations below 1.8 MeV and members of the νf7/2×3− and νf7/2×2+ particle-phonon multiplets. Quantitative analysis of the GT-decay strength to149Dy 1qp- and 3qp-states is made in terms of the strength values measured in149Dy0 and147Tb11/2− decay.

Notes: Abstract Instrumental neutron activation analysis was applied to the determination of trace elements in a Na-bentonitic clay. The irradiation was done in the Triga Mark II type reactor of ITU Nuclear Energy Institute. The sample was irradiated in two steps for “short-” and “long-” lived isotopes. After irradiation, spectra were taken using a germanium detector, multichannel analyzer Canberra System 100 and a fitting program called Sampo 90. The spectra of short-lived isotopes were analyzed to determine Al, Mg, Na, K, Ca, Ti elements and Mn, V trace elements. The spectra of long-lived isotopes were analyzed to determine Sc, Br, Sb, Cs, La, Ce, Sm, Yb, Hf, Pa, Np trace elements.

Notes: Abstract Air samples collected at the second Bosporus bridge of Istanbul which carries a heavy traffic load between Asia and Europe, were analyzed for 22 elements by the INAA method. Pb, Cd and Fe concentrations in the samples were determined by AAS. Iron concentrations were used as a cross check between the two methods. In order to define the enrichment factors for the elements in the bridge area, a sample collected from our university campus which can be considered as a rural site, was also analyzed. Differences were observed especially for Br, Al, Mg, Ti, Cu and Na between the two sites. Based on the results of the samples from the bridge, we got a value of 0.58(16) for the Br/Pb-ratio.
