Notes: [Auszug] The limited resolving power of high speed rapid-processing photographic material like 'Polaroid' 55P/N restricts the permissible angle between wavefronts arriving at the film and, consequently, the angular size of the objects from which holograms can be made. But for studies in which these ...

Notes: [Auszug] In certain cases, it is possible to employ a third technique, which retains as much control of the spacing of the bands in the interference pattern as the "live" fringe method, but does not necessarily involve the original apparatus once the exposures have been made. Notes: The principles of holography are described. Illustrations are given of the use of reconstructions of objects from holograms instead of the objects themselves. These reconstructions may be made for the purposes of measurement, especially when the object is in a transitory or inaccessible condition at the time at which measurement is needed. Interferometric methods using holograms are shown to be capable of high sensitivity and great convenience. Finally reference is made to related measurement techniques using non-holographic methods which have been derived from experience with holography.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉RésuméOn donne les principes de l'holographie.

Notes: An individual view is provided of the function of the art and science of photogrammetry, over the whole of the history of attempts to make measurements from optical observations. The predominating influence, in past years, of the need for mapping from air photographs is compared with the prospect that increasing demands for similar facilities in close range measurement, for application in fields such as mechanical engineering, medicine and architecture, may soon be seen to give further encouragement to the development of the subject. The author makes use of illustrations from his experience to point out simple cases where the potential of photogrammetric techniques, in the wider sense, has not been appreciated.
