Notes: [Auszug] The rat visual cortex was fixed with buffered osmium tetroxide, 'stained' with alcoholic phospho-tungstic acid and embedded in araldite for sectioning4. Dendrites, which can be identified by their tubules4'5, are often seen to have spinous projections. A spine (Fig. 1) is 2[L or less long and its ...

Notes: [Auszug] We confirm that the axial fibre enters the central end of the scolopale (Fig. 1) and reaches far up its axis, though we have not yet been able to trace it to contact with or passage through the cap. At the level indicated in Fig. 2 a transverse section discloses that the fibre (Fig. 2,6) consists ...

Notes: [Auszug] During the first hour or so of confinement, the fish struggles ; but later, escape reactions cease and the fish remains quiescent on the floor of the tube. Under these conditions on either a white or a black background the fish fails to become fully white- or black-adapted ; it assumes an ...

Notes: [Auszug] As a rule, section of a few melanophore nerve fibres in a white-adapted teleost fish causes an area of the related melanophores to disperse, the melanin granules being symmetrically distributed in the melanophore processes. Each of the surrounding innervated melanophores remains symmetrically ...

Notes: [Auszug] WITH reference to the communication from Muskett and Calvert1, we wish to record that in 1891 Prillieux and Delacroix2,3 described, in France, a parasite Endoconidium temulentum, on rye (Secale cereale), which possessed toxic properties. The genus Endoconidium was ...

Notes: [Auszug] To account for pre-synaptic inhibition, Eccles2 has postulated pre-synaptic contacts on synaptic terminals and in this present report apparent axo-axonic contacts, observed by electron microscopy, are described which might well fulfil these requirements. In the past, afferent axons have been ...

Notes: Infection by Sclerotinia narcissicola Greg, was observed in narcissus bulbs during autumn, in leaf initials colonized by bulb scale mites (Steneotarsonemus laticeps (Halb.)), and on lesions of varying extent on the corresponding tissue after emergence.Presence or absence of smoulder sclerotia on outer scales of bulbs was not related to the incidence of infection of shoots. There was no evidence that smoulder was reduced by treatment for control of bulb mites (Rhizoglyphus echinopus (Fum. & Rob.)).

Notes: [Auszug] IT is now known that the blind seed disease of ryegrass, associated with low germination, has been present in Great Britain for at least four years. It appears that the true perennials are particularly susceptible and, as these are the more valuable forms, the disease is of considerable ...

Notes: Summary Synaptic vesicles and coated vesicles are described using different preparative procedures. Different appearances of thecytonet are described and astranded cytonet is distinguished from apolygonal cytonet. For comparison observations were made on vesicles in the terminal web region of gut epithelium. A theory is put forward which suggests that the coat of coated vesicles might be artefactually formed during the preparative procedure by condensation from the surrounding cytonet. Similarly, globular bodies here termedreticulosomes may form artefactually from the cytonet. These look like coated vesicles except that they contain no vesicle.
