Summary Thalassomyces marsupii, an ellobiopsid parasite of the pelagic amphipod Parathemisto pacifica, produces biflagellate swarmers following simultaneous cleavage of the gonomere. One flagellum is directed posteriorly, the other circumferentially. The vegetative thallus is bounded by a complex pellicle and not a cell wall. Our observations suggest that Thalassomyces is a member of the achlorophyllous Dinophyceae.
