Notes: Abstract This paper considers systems of differential equations that describe flows in renal networks. The flow geometry is of the type that occurs in modelling the renal medulla. The unknowns in the system include the flow rate, the hydrostatic pressure, and the concentrations of the various solutes. Existence and uniqueness of solutions of the appropriate boundary value problems are established, in the case of small permeability coefficients and transport rates, or large diffusion coefficients and small resistance to flow constants.

Notes: Several problems are encountered when collecting traffic information by conventional methods and which leave scope for the development of more comprehensive techniques. This paper reviews the potential of different types of photography as an effective means of obtaining comprehensive traffic information. Comparisons between conventional methods and photographic methods are made. The different types of available photography are discussed, together with their uses in the field of traffic data acquisition. Finally, the paper assesses the use of automatic and semiautomatic methods of photographic data analysis in this context.

Notes: It has been recognised for many years that photographic methods of traffic data collection can overcome many of the problems associated with more traditional methods, particularly with regard to the substantial reduction in manpower requirements achieved, the comprehensive nature of the data which may be obtained and the permanent record provided of these data. Against these advantages, the major drawbacks are the expense involved in obtaining suitable photographic coverage and the time consuming operation of collecting the data from the photography. The problems of obtaining photographic coverage have been considered in an earlier paper (Garner and Mountain, 1978a) and recommendations made regarding the most suitable type of photography for analysis of traffic flow data at complex urban and suburban intersections. This paper concentrates, therefore, on the second problem, namely that of extracting the required data from the photographs. The technique described involves the use of a co-ordinate reader to obtain the two dimensional co-ordinates of vehicles on successive frames, a coordinate transformation system to convert photographic co-ordinates to ground coordinates and, finally, a computer based co-ordinate matching technique.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉RésuméOn sait depuis plusieurs années que l'application de la photogrammétrie aux études sur la circulation urbaine, peut être fort avantageuse: réduction de personnel, diversité des données obtenues, actualisation facile des fichiers.

Notes: Many attempts have been made to use various types of photography for traffic studies. The problems most frequently encountered are the expense involved in obtaining the photography and the time consuming and, hence, expensive operation of collecting the required data from the photography. This paper discusses the problems associated with various types of photography and describes a study which has been carried out to evaluate the potential of 16 mm and 35 mm time lapse photography taken from a helicopter. The accuracy of two dimensional co-ordinate transformation systems for collecting the required data from the photography is also described. Finally, recommendations are made regarding the most suitable type of photography and the most convenient and accurate transformation system to use when it is required to analyse the traffic flow data at complex urban and suburban intersections.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉RésuméBeaucoup de tentatives ont déjàété faites pour étudier les problèmes de circulation par photographie: les difficultés sont le coût de la photographie, les délais d'obtention et le coût du dépouillement.

Notes: This paper outlines a technique for plotting from single aerial photographs. The technique, based on the continuous recording of photograph co-ordinates, is clearly no substitute for more conventional photogrammetric plotting. It is, however, an extremely useful method for plotting detail which has been interpreted from aerial photography, particularly where the accuracy with which the detail may be identified is not very great. The technique requires relatively inexpensive equipment and can be applied by those who have little or no knowledge of photogrammetric principles.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉RésuméOn décrit une technique de restitution à partir de photographies isolées.

Notes: Abstract A mathematical analysis, including existence and uniqueness, is given for some boundary value problems which model the flow of a fluid-solute mixture in a tube which is placed in an interstitium. The model permits an interchange of fluid and solute across the tube walls.

Notes: Abstract A single nephron model, which includes the Bowman's space, Cortical interstitium, and Pelvis as well-stirred baths, is investigated. A boundary value problem, which allows for pelvic reflux, is established for the fluid-multisolute flow in the nephron. The implicit function theorem is used to establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution of the boundary value problem for the case of small permeability coefficients and transport rates.
