Notes: Magnetization reversal processes in ferrimagnetically ordered Co/Gd multilayers were studied by means of the magneto-optical Kerr effect. Temperature dependencies of coercive field of the multilayers have been determined in the wide temperature region 25〈T〈300 K. An increase of temperature can cause both an enhancement and diminution of coercivity in the Co/Gd multilayers examined. Different temperature behavior of coercivity is explained by taking into account the temperature variation of net magnetization in the ferrimagnetically ordered Co/Gd multilayers. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Tetragonal calcium manganese germanium garnet (Ca3Mn2Ge3O12) is determined to be optically negative. An analysis of the angular dependence of the transmission for a-cut crystals reveals the presence of dichroism. Absorption is largest for extraordinarily polarized light. Both properties allow to determine and orient the crystallographic axes of Ca3Mn2Ge3O12 samples. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Persistent photoinduced changes of optical absorption have been found in garnet Ca3Ga2Ge3O12 doped with manganese. Irradiation by a He–Ne laser of 633 nm wavelength results in a noticeable increase in the absorption coefficient of the crystal. The photoinduced changes are observed up to room temperature as distinct from concentrated manganese garnets in which the photoinduced absorption vanishes at much lower temperatures. The wide temperature range of the existence of the photoinduced effect together with a high transparency of the crystal makes it a promising material for optical recording. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.
