Notes: Stabilization of a plant in case of uncertainty parameters and unmodeled dynamics arethe main problems considered in this paper. A robust control of motion of a rigid shaft that issupported by magnetic bearings was used as an example. The dynamics of the active magneticsuspension system is characterized by instability and uncertainty. The uncertainty is modeled as anadditive and multiplicative. Robust controller H∞ was designed for the defined plant with theuncertainty models. The robust controller assures high quality of control despite the uncertaintymodels. Robust control of vibrations of a rigid rotor is confirmed by experimental studies. A digitalsignal processor is used to execute the control algorithm in real time

Notes: An active vibration damping system with the use of piezoelements fixed to the structureis presented in the paper. The optimal location of the piezo-stripes on the structure is calculated forgiven cost functions. Coefficient correlations between control forces, strains, mode shapes, frequency changes, modal masses and modal stiffness are analyzed in order to find simpler methodfor calculation of the quasi-optimal localization of piezo-sensors and piezo-actuators. Reducedmodel of the open-loop system was identified and the simulations were carried out in order to findthe best controller to reduce the amplitude of vibrations. The correctness of the selection of thecontroller was verified and investigated experimentally

Notes: Lab stand of a differential passive magnetic bearing is presented in the paper. Thepassive bearing will be used in high-speed flexible rotor. The one neodymium magnet MP41x15x10 – N38 and two neodymium magnets MP 40x22x10 – N38 were used to design thepassive magnetic bearing. The mathematical model of differential bearing, laboratory model anddistribution of magnetic flux density are presented and analyzed

Notes: Highly maneuverable aircraft has redundant electrohydraulic actuators that generate theforces to drive the aircraft control surfaces. Two problems are important in these actuators. First, during reconfiguration of the actuator channels the hydraulic system works in the full range of itsparameters. It leads to strongly nonlinear models of the redundant servo. Second, the frequencybandwidth of elements, which are located in the feedback loop of the servo, should be as wide aspossible. Therefore, it is necessary to choose proper control method for actuator, where thecontroller of control system adjusts the set point signal. The advanced control methods can ensurethe new quality of the systems. The new, advanced methods can cope with such problem in practical applications. There areavailable: adaptive methods, predictive methods, etc. and first of all, the robust control methods. These methods are robust on external disturbance. The causes of disturbances are very different: theinaccuracy in the mathematical and simulation model, the change of the operation point, theweather and temperature conditions, etc. We have designed such models in the Matlab/Simulinkenvironment and we divided the full actuator into small subsystems

Notes: The fast progress in the applications of active magnetic suspension systems needs toapply the modern control theory. This paper deals with H∞ and H2 control of rigid rotor movement, which is supported in magnetic bearings. The robust control of magnetic bearings is investigatedanalytically. The nominal model of active magnetic suspension of rotor and the uncertainty modelwere derived. The standard PID control and robust control are compared and performance ofnominal feedback configuration with weights is presented. We propose a robust control with amulti-objective controller to achieve good robust stability when the model of a plant is uncertain. The behavior of multiplicative uncertainty of magnetic suspension system is shown. The aim of optimal robust control is to improve the magnetic suspension taking into accountthe energy limitation (i.e., to avoid the saturation of actuators). The H2 performance and H∞performance depend on a proper selection of weighting functions. So a very important step in thecontroller design process is to choose the appropriate weight functions: We, Wu, Wd. The influenceof noise is limited by weight functions. We also put limits on input and output signals. The stabilityof a system with disturbance interaction is discussed. The simulations of a well-posed and internallystable magnetic system are presented. The success of the robust control is demonstrated throughresults of numerical simulations

Notes: Analysis of robustness of active magnetic bearing system is carried out in the paper. Allof the most important acceptable levels of robustness are established. Rigid body model of a rotor isused for controller design, stability and analysis of robustness. Advanced tools for robust control areapplied. The μ-synthesis is used to design a μ robust controller to stabilize the shaft that issupported magnetically. The influence of robust control on the sensitivity of plant with anuncertainty dynamics is shown. The influence of dynamic uncertainty on the robustness level ofclosed-loop system is considered. Small gain theorem and robustness theorem for an activemagnetic bearing are investigated. Finally, the experimental results confirm the analyticalinvestigations of the robust control of vibrations
