Notizen: Reduction Degree in Photoredox-SystemsThe reduction degree is in many photoredox systems an invariant under irradiation. Therefore it represents an important degree of freedom in these systems. It is possible to define the reduction degree in such a systematic way, that it may also be applied for discussing complicated systems. It would be helpful to have selective electrode material for the examination of photoredox systems. We have succeeded in finding a selective electrode material for the iron in the iron/thionin system as well as in the iron/iodine system.

Notizen: Synthesis of 4-Trichlorosilylmethylbenzonitrile and 4-(2-Trichlorosilylethyl)pyridine for Surface Modification of Tin DioxideWe describe the synthesis of 4-(trichlorosilylmethyl)benzonitrile and 4-(2-trichlorosilylethyl)pyridine, starting from 4-(bromomethyl)benzonitrile and trichlorosilane or vinylpyridine and trichlorosilane. Trimethoxysilanes are obtained by reaction of the trichlorosilyl compounds with methyl orthoformate. 4-(Trichlorosilylmethyl)benzonitrile and 4-(2-trichlorosilylethyl)pyridine are used to modify the surface of tin dioxide.

Notizen: Clark-like Hydrogen DetectorA quantitative hydrogen detector, similar to the Clark oxygen electrode, has been proposed by Green et al. [1] in 1967. Such a detector gives a signal which is directly proportional to the hydrogen partial pressure without consuming any hydrogen itself. We have taken up the proposal of Green et al., and have realized a very sensitive and under many circumstances also a selective detector, which is easy to handle and which can be used in gaseous phase as well as in aqueous solution. Sensitivity of 0.1 Torr or even better can be achieved. The main differences to the Clark electrode are that a platinized platinum electrode has to be used instead of a blank platinum electrode and that a more positive potential has to be applied. We give a detailed description of the construction and the handling of the Clark-like hydrogen detector.

Notizen: Charge Transfer Transitions of Pentacyano-Benzonitrile-Ferrate(II)Pentacyano-benzontrile-ferrate(II) shows two charge transfer transitions, which are interpreted as central atom to benzonitrile transitions d-1π* and d-2π*. Selective excitation to the d-1π* state leads to a completely reversible photoreaction. An isosbestic point is observed at 398 nm in aqueous solution.
