Notes:
Conclusions 1. The testing of rocks and certain brittle nonmetallic materials that we conducted in accordance with the described procedure indicated high resolution of the rig that we developed. 2. The measuring apparatus ensures sufficient recording accuracy for force, deformation, and time characteristics of the failure process. 3. The failure diagram obtained from tests performed in accordance with the method in question makes it possible to determine a parameter of crack resistance directly — the effective surface energy γef. 4. The proposed method makes it possible to conduct tests of materials that differ with respect to mechanical properties and enables us to lower significantly labor outlays for experimental and preparatory work.
