Notes: Abstract Using the shell-model approach to nuclear reactions, the Lippmann-Schwinger equation for elastic and inelastic nucléon scattering is solved numerically. The procedure is based upon an adaptation of a method due toWeinberg. The differential and total elastic and inelastic cross-sections and the asymmetry of the scattering of a transversally polarised beam of neutrons are calculated. The positions (energies and total widths) and residues (partial widths) of the scattering matrix in the complex plane are determined. The results are discussed and compared with previous treatments.

Notes: Abstract: We study anomalous J/Ψ suppression and p t broadening in the model of prompt gluons. The anomalous suppression can be successfully described in this model. The transverse-momentum dependence of J/Ψ suppression in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is calculated from initial-state gluon rescattering with both nucleons and prompt gluons produced in nucleon-nucleon collisions in the early phase of the reaction. It seems impossible to describe simultaneously anomalous suppression and p t broadening in Pb-Pb collisions within the model of prompt gluons with reasonable values of the parameters.

Notes: Abstract: The growth rate for instabilities in an expanding parton plasma is investigated by using a quasiparticle transport model including hadronization. The coupled Boltzmann equations for partons and pions with time dependent mean field masses and source terms are solved in the Bjorken boost invariant picture. Hadronization modifies the known instability in the parton plasma created by the mean field in two ways: In the beginning, hadronization increases the rate Γ of instability, but then Γ→ 0 when the hadronization is dominating the time evolution.

Notes: Abstract The dependence of cross sections on the colour state of the colliding hadrons is investigated within the Low-Nussinov model of two-gluon exchange. The total cross sections for colour-octet hadrons are practically constant as functions of the hadronic radii, while they tend to zero when the radii of the colour-singlet hadrons approach zero. The slope parameter of the differential clastic cross sections for small momentum transfers is rather insensitive to the colour structure of the colliding hadrons. The integrated colour exchange cross section is calculated.

Notes: Abstract We calculate the inclusive momentum distribution of particles produced in a hadron-nucleus (hA) collision. The exchange of colour between the projectile and target nucleons leads to the formation of colour strings which are assumed to fragment like strings formed in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. Making a few basic hypotheses we consistently and parameterfree describe the projectile fragmentation region in collisions of the typehA→h′X withh=p, π+ andh′=p, π+, π− at 100 GeV incident energy.

Notes: Abstract The data ofJ/ψ-production cross sections from photon, hadron and nucleus-nucleus collisions are plotted against the length of thec $$\bar c$$ final state trajectory in nuclear matter. A value for the absorption cross section per nucleon of σ abs ψN =(6.2±0.3) mb is deduced from the baryon and photon induced reactions and σ abs ψN =(6.9±1.0) mb from the nucleus-nucles collisions. The equality of cross sections implies that additional suppression effects from a quark-gluon plasma are not visible.

Notes: Abstract The momentum distribution (or angular distribution) in inelastic heavy ion reactions is calculated by using a two-step model (“abrasion” and “ablation”). First, all nucleons in the volume element where projectile and target overlap spatially during the collision are sheared away. The remaining prefragment (the projectile minus the sheared off nucleons) has a recoil momentum proportional to the Fermi momentum. The prefragment is left in an excited state and emits nucleons, the recoil momentum given to the final fragment is proportional to the nuclear temperature. This two-step model reproduces the overall trend and the isotopic dependence for the widths of the experimental momentum distributions. Contrary to previous theoretical studies we find that surface and friction phenomena lead to an anisotropy: The momentum distributions in transverse direction are always broader than in the longitudinal direction by about 5 to 10%.

Notes: Abstract: Prompt gluons are an additional source for charmonium suppression in nuclear collisions, in particular for nucleus-nucleus collisions. These gluons are radiated as bremsstrahlung in N-N collisions and interact inelastically with the charmonium states while the nuclei still overlap. The spectra and mean number 〈n g〉 of the prompt gluons are calculated perturbatively and the inelastic cross section σabs Ψg is estimated. The integrated cross sections σ(A B →J/ψX) for p-A and A-B collisions and the dependence on transverse energy for S-U and Pb-Pb can be described quantitatively with some adjustment of one parameter 〈n g〉σabs Ψg.
