Olefine Palladium Chloride Complexes, XII. Formation of π-Allylic Complexes from Olefines and Palladium SaltsThe reaction of olefines substituted at the double bond with PdII salts results, after formation of the respective π-olefine complex as intermediate, in a mixture of all π-allylic complexes, the appearance of which can be explained on the basis of kinetic and thermodynamic factors. Branched olefines without substituents at the double bond yield a number of π-allylic complexes, some of which can only be explained to be formed after a shift of the double bond to the thermodynamicly most favoured position at the branching point of the olefine. A mechanistic interpretation of the transition π-olefine complex → π-allylic complex is proposed. The oxidation of π-allylic complexes with PdII frequently produces fairly good yields of unsaturated carbonyl compounds. In all cases oxidation occurs only at the ends of the allylic system.
Notes:
