Notes: Abstract TheK conversion coefficients of the 388 and 483 keV transitions in87Sr populated in the decay of87Y have been measured with Ge(Li) and Si(Li) detectors by the NPG method. We find α K values of 0.162 ± 0.010 and 0.00260 ± 0.00013 for the 388 and 483 keV transitions, respectively.

Notes: Abstract A low level counting facility equipped with two large Na I(Tl) detectors was used to search for previously reported transitions of 470 and 640 keV in the decay of51Cr. Our results yield upper limits of 1.4× 10−6 and 0.95× 10−6 transitions/decay for these two transitions, respectively. These limits are now so low as to indicate these levels do not exist in51V.

Notes: Abstract An electron detector system with a 3 mm × 100 mm2 Si(Li) detector with a cooled FET and vacuum air lock for changing sources was constructed. The absolute efficiency was measured as a function of energy for use in the measurement ofK conversion coefficients. With the Si(Li) and a Ge(Li) detector, theK conversion coefficient of the 320 keV transition in51V was measured to be 0.00156 ± 0.00008 where theK conversion coefficients of the 661 and 279 keV transitions in137Ba and203Tl were used as standards. From absolute detection efficiency measurements, theK conversion coefficients of the 388 and 483 keV transitions in87Sr were measured to be 0.16 ± 0.02 and 0.0024 ± 0.0003, respectively.

Notes: Abstract The intensities, placements andE2/M1 mixing ratios of transitions in the decay of154Eu have been carefully studied to provide accurate data for microscopic calculations. Coincidence relationships in the decay of154Eu have been studied extensively with a multiparameterγ-γ coincidence system with two large volume Ge(Li) detectors. Spectra in coincidence with twenty energy gates were analyzed. Twenty-nine new coincidence relationships were established and confirmed most, but not all, of several levels previously assigned by energy fits only. From an analysis of coincidence spectra and singles spectra with a 18% efficiency Ge(Li) detector new information on the gamma-ray intensities were obtained. Precise values of theE2/M1 mixing ratios of transitions from the gamma- and beta-vibrational bands to the g.s. band have been determined fromγ-γ directional correlation measurements with a NaI(Tl)-Ge(Li) detector coincidence system. Mixing ratios were obtained for a number of other transitions including those fromK π =0− and 2+ bands from direct and skipped cascade correlations.

Notes: Abstract The shape of the allowed positron spectrum from the decay of Na22 has been studied under various experimental conditions in an ironfree, double-focusing spectrometer in search of instrumental distortions of the spectrum. The possibility of positrons back-scattering from the material directly behind the source on the optical path of the positrons was studied. The beta spectrum shape was measured with end-plates (located ∼6.5 cm behind the source) of aluminum, lucite and lead. Different spectrometer baffle settings were also used. No differences were observed in the spectrum shapes taken under the different experimental conditions. The experimental shape factor could be fitted with an empirical shape of the form of (1+b/W) with 0.10≲b≲0.3 in agreement with earlier work.

Notes: Abstract The weak transitions in the decay of125Sb have been investigated through gamma ray measurements with high resolution X-ray and with large volume Ge(Li) detectors. The 172.6, 178.8 and 198.5 keV gamma rays are confirmed, while others previously reported were not. Accurate intensities were obtained for the stronger transitions. The weighted averages of these intensities which cover the range of 116 to 670 keV are useful for calibration of Ge(Li) systems.

Notes: Abstract A detailed investigation of the energies and intensities of the γ-rays that depopulate the low spin levels of the β- and γ-vibrational bands of156Gd and the γ-vibrational band of158Gd has been conducted. Both singles and γ-γ coincidence measurements were made on sources of 15-d156Eu and 46-min158Eu by use of large volume, high resolution Ge(Li) detectors. In addition to the γ-band at 1154.09 keV, twoK π=0+ bands were observed in156Gd with band heads at 1049.45 and 1168.11 keV, respectively. The 2+ and 3+ members of the γ-vibrational band in158Gd were observed at 1187.12 and 1265.43 keV, respectively, as well as a newK π=0+ band at 1195.98 keV. A first order perturbational treatment of the branching ratios was applied to both nuclei. In addition, the mixing between the ground state, the β-, and the γ-vibrational bands of156Gd is considered from two approaches, but neither satisfactorily explains all the experimentalB(E2) ratios.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that in the crossing of two bands withK≠0 in deformed nuclei, two new effects are observed that are not seen in the crossing ofK=0 bands; namely, a)I critical at which the bands cross is lowered and b) Band crossing occurs at different values ofI crit for oddI (orI+1/2 in oddA) and evenI (orI+1/2). These predictions are shown to be observed in the odd-A rare-earth nuclei where data are available to high spin.
