Notes: The Canada-France Redshift Survey (CFRS), conducted with the CFHT MOS spec-trograph, has provided secure redshifts for ∼600 galaxies with 0≤z≤1.3 of which more than 350 are at z≥0.5. This unique data set allows to investigate the evolution of the luminosity function of galaxies over timescales ∼50% the present age of the universe. We find that the luminosity function of red galaxies does not change much over the redshift range of the CFRS, while the luminosity function of blue galaxies is strongly evolving, consistent with a ∼1 magnitude brightening at z∼0.75 (but equivalently described by an increase in comoving density). Morphological information with HST will help to establish whether the evolution we observe is due to simple brightening of individual objects with look-back time.

Notes: [Auszug] One of the keys to understanding the nature of distant radio galaxies is the study of their optical continuum, and multiple broad-band photometry has been extensively used to examine their spectral energy distribution, often in conjunction with stellar population synthesis models. Notes: Abstract. The aim of this study was to evaluate gadolinium diethylenetriaminepenta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA) as an alternative contrast agent for digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in patients with renal insufficiency or previous anaphylactic reaction to iodinated contrast agents. We performed 34 DSAs in 31 patients by use of the commercially available 0.5-M Gd-DTPA solution (Magnevist, Schering, Berlin, Germany). The contrast material was power- or hand-injected at the same rate as iodinated contrast material, without exceeding a total amount of 0.4 mmol/kg body weight. In 18 studies Gd-DTPA was the sole contrast agent. In 9 cases gadolinium injections were combined with carbon dioxide. Restricted non-ionic contrast medium injections were administered to complete the examinations in 7 cases and for comparative purposes in 1 case. Cerebral and carotid arteries, one superior limb, abdominal aorta, renal arteries, renal transplants, iliac arteries and inferior limbs were imaged, and ten endovascular interventional procedures, including three transjugular intrahepatic percutaneous stent shunts, were performed. No side effects were observed. Diagnostic angiographic images were obtained in all cases except in 5 of the 8 distal run-off studies. Gadolinium-based contrast can produce clinically useful angiograms in patients with a contra-indication to iodine who must undergo angiography.

Notes: Abstract Embolisation of a mycotic aneurysm of the anterior pancreaticoduodenal arcade was performed in an emergency situation using a microcatheter and tissue adhesive, after unsuccessful surgical therapy. The polymerising agent occluded the outflow vessel, the aneurysm and the feeding artery successfully.

Notes: Abstract New improvements in extragalactic research have recently increased the number of sources at high redshift, i.e., QSOs and especially galaxies. Gravitational lensing/magnification events are more common among them, particularly because gravitationally magnified sources are preferentially selected in the flux-limited catalogues used to find distant sources. They offer a means of investigating the matter distribution from small scales (microlensing) to large scales (macrolensing). Recent observations and realistic mass distribution models of the arc-like structures (in A370 and CI 2244-02) allow us to describe the observations well and to set new and independent conditions on the material content of the deflecting clusters; they also allow detailed studies of sources which are at the ends of the gravitational telescopes.
