Sections of normal pigeon brain treated with the Fink-Heimer technique frequently show granular deposits, suggestive of degenerating synaptic terminals, in relation to the soma of cells in the nucleus ruber and formatio reticularis. Electron microscopic examination of such reactive cells shows the argyrophilic granules to be intracellular inclusions which have the appearance of catecholamines.
