    Notizen: Background: Patient with pheochromocytoma (PCT) cannot be cured without operation, therefore, preoperative determination of the localization of PCT should be performed accurately. [131I]-Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy is a gold standard for the diagnosis of PCT. However, [123I]-MIBG is also found to accumulate in PCT. In order to clarify the usefulness of [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy for the local detection of PCT, we compared the distribution of [123I]- and [131I]-MIBG in patients with or without PCT.Methods: [131I]- and [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy was performed in 29 and 16 patients, respectively. In the former group, 14 patients had PCT, 12 had hypertension without any adrenal disorder and three had other diseases. In the latter group, eight patients had PCT, two had hypertension without any adrenal disorder and six had other diseases. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of [123I]-compared with [131I]-MIBG scintigraphy were compared.Results: The sensitivity of [131I]- and [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy was 85.7 and 90%, respectively. The specificity of each test was 100%. The accuracy of [131I]- and [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy was 93.1 and 95%, respectively. The quality of images obtained using [123I]-MIBG was better than with [131I]-MIBG, because [123I]-MIBG generated a higher dose of γ-rays with a higher specificity than [131I]-MIBG. In addition, normal adrenal grands were visualized in 50% of patients tested with [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy.Conclusions: These results indicate that [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy is a valuable tool for the local detection of PCT, as is [131I]-MIBG scintigraphy. Furthermore, it is possible that [123I]-MIBG can be used as an alternative to [131I]-MIBG for the detection of PCT. Our study was not a prospective study and the background of the patients was not matched. Further prospective studies are needed in order to determine the efficacy of [123I]-MIBG scintigraphy for the diagnosis of PCT.

    Notizen: Abstract Background : Peyronie’s disease is an idiopathic fibrosis of the tunica albuginea of the penis, which often causes erectile dysfunction. No effective therapy except surgery has been available for Peyronie’s disease. We investigated the clinical efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave treatment (ESWT) using EDAP LT-02 as an alternative method of treatment for Peyronie’s disease. Methods : Five patients aged 35–65 years were treated by ESWT. All patients had undergone unsuccessful medical treatment before ESWT. Each patient was treated by ESWT (7–40 storages at an energy density of 45–96 MPa) between three and five times at 4-week intervals. Although no patient needed anesthesia, all were administered diclofenac suppository (50 mg) before ESWT. Results : Of the five patients, four were eligible for evaluation. The penile plaque disappeared in one patient (25%). In the other three patients (75%), the penile plaque did not disappear, but softened. Although no improvement of erectile penile curvature was recognized, erectile penile pain disappeared in all patients. Conclusions : These results indicate that ESWT is a possible alternative to surgery in the treatment of Peyronie’s disease.

    Notizen: Expression of the enzymes for anaerobic nitrate respiration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa requires two CRP/FNR-related transcriptional regulators, ANR and DNR. Activity of the consensus CRP- or FNR-dependent promoter in the anr and dnr deficient mutants was investigated. The CRP-dependent promoter was active in the mutant strains. Both regulators could activate the promoter with a consensus FNR-binding motif. DNR-dependent activation was nitrite-dependent, whereas activation by ANR was not, suggesting that only DNR is involved in sensing nitrogen oxides.

    Notizen: Abstract Glow discharge was applied to the aqueous solution containing ammonia and aliphatic carboxylic acids. Several amino acids were synthesized by the direct amination reaction. Simultaneously stepwise oxidation reactions of the substrates and the products were also took place. The time courses of the amination reactions and also the oxidation reactions were studied. These results indicate that the amination and oxidation reactions induced by the electric discharge are initiated by hydroxyl radicals which are produced by the electric discharge through the decomposition of water molecules.

    Notizen: The multiple interference effect is one of the major causes of the fluctuation in critical dimension control (CD) and in mark detection for alignment. Suppressing this effect is critical for future photolithography. We propose a new photolithography technique called anti reflective coating on resist (ARCOR), which improves linewidth accuracy and overlay accuracy by suppressing multiple interference. ARCOR consists of relatively simple processes: A clear antireflective film is spun onto the resist prior to the mark detecting for alignment and exposure. The film is subsequently removed and the resist developed in the conventional way. ARCOR differs from ARC, which suppresses the reflection at the resist/substrate interface. ARCOR suppresses the reflection at the air/resist interface. ARCOR allows mark detection and exposure without light intensity-loss and multiple interference. The experiments mainly examine polysiloxane and perfluoroalkylpolyether as ARCOR materials. It is shown that linewidth accuracy can be improved from 0.3 to 0.03 μm. The signal-to-noise ratio of the alignment signal is drastically improved, and the overlay error is about half that of the conventional method. ARCOR is also effective for directly measuring the reflectivity at the resist/substrate interface, which is a key parameter of the multiple interference effect and the halation. Using ARCOR and a thin resist film, the measured ratio of reflected light to incident light indicates the reflectivity at the resist/substrate interface. Because, the probe light does not reflect off the resist surface and the intensity-loss at the resist surface is suppressed. With perfluoroalkylpolyether film, the measurement error is ∼ 1.5%.

    Notizen: Positive photoresists appeared to be the most promising material in VLSI microfabrication for ten or more years from now. Thus, processing know-how needs to be accumulated continuously. This work deals with thermal characteristics of positive photoresist. The following facts were declared experimentally. The quinone diazide, photosensitizer, was thermally decomposed at around 140°C to release N2. Simultaneously the surface layer of resist film was changed into innert state, called as ‘husk’, with low gas permeability and high chemical resistance. These thermal changes in resist film affect the photoresist to SiO2 adhesion. In this work a noble process, named double exposure stabilization, is developed to get sufficient chemical resistance and good adhesion simultaneously.
