Notes: Abstract  The growth of the microorganism and the production of the pectinolytic enzyme complex in a stirred 30-l biofermentor using the Aspergillus niger Rehbrücke strain were studied. The time courses of fermentation parameters (formation of biomass, consumption of carbon and inorganic nitrogen source, formation of pectinolytic enzymes) were measured. The formation of biomass showed a distinct lag phase, followed by a log phase with exponential growth and finally a stationary period when cell lysis was beginning. The uptake of the carbon source and inorganic nitrogen source by the A. niger cells corresponded to the time course of growth. The formation of pectinolytic enzymes took place in two steps. The first one was growth-bounded and finished with the end of the log phase of biomass growth. The second step of pectinolytic enzyme formation took place after the end of the catabolite repression of the carbon source and was not growth-bounded. On the basis of the experimental data a mathematical model of the fermentation process was developed. Comparison of the kinetics of the measured fermentation curves and the solution curves of the model showed qualitatively good agreement.

Notes: Summary Female RLEF1/Lati rats were chronically treated with 2-mercaptoethanol in a dose of 13 μg·100 g bw-1·day-1 dissolved in drinking water. During a 48-h experiment 15N-labelled glycine was given orally in a dose of 5 mg 15N·kg bw-1 and urine samples were collected and analysed by an emission spectrometric isotope method. Protein synthesis and nitrogen excretion rate constants were calculated according to the three-pool model, and 3-methylhistidine excretion rates were also determined. 2-Mercaptoethanol appears to influence protein metabolism; however, the slower rates of protein synthesis proved to be apparent in almost all groups of treated rats. Protein synthesis and nitrogen excretion rate constants have exceptionally high values in 2-year-old rats, possibly explained by the occurrence of hypercompensation mechanisms in old age. These were reflected by the excretion rates of 3-methylhistidine which were reduced as a result of sulphhydryl group interactions in age-dependent cellular metabolic changes.

A stochastic bifurcation here means (a) the qualitative change of stationary measures or (b) the change of stability of invariant measures and the occurrence of new invariant measures for the random dynamical system generated by (1). The first type of bifurcation can be observed when studying the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation, this stationary measure is a quantity corresponding to the one-point motion. More generally, if one is interested in the simultaneous motion of n points (n≥1) forward and backward in time, then the second type of bifurcation arises naturally, capturing all the stochastic dynamics of (1). Based on the numerical results, we propose definitions of the stochastic pitchfork and Hopf bifurcations.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation, Structures, and Properties of Tris-hexamethyl-trisila-tetraphospha-nortricyclene-bis-chromiumtricarbonyl [P4(Sime2)3]3[Cr(CO)3]2Hexamethyl-trisila-tetraphospha-nortricyclene P4(Sime2)3 1 reacts with C6H6Cr(CO)3 or (CHT)Cr(CO)3 (CHT = Cycloheptatriene) under formation of [P4(Sime2)3]3[Cr(CO)3]2 3 (red crystals), in which each of the Cr atoms is attached to one P atom of a P3 ring of the three molecules 1. 3 can also be prepared by heating a solution of P4(Sime2)3Cr(CO)5 in benzene or THF up to 120-1307deg;C. The compound 3 crystallizes in an orthorhombic and a hexagonal form, the latter being stabilized by one mole toluene. As revealed by single crystal investigations, the symmetry ¯6, distances and angles are nearly unchanged. The o-form corresponds to a face centered cubic packing of the molecules, whereas the h-form is hexagonal close packed.
