Notes: Abstract Peroxisomes were studied in the liver of two rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata patients using electron microscopy and catalase cytochemistry. Immuno-electron microscopy was carried out on the liver of one of these patients using antibodies to catalase, acyl-CoA oxidase, bifunctional protein, 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase and a 68 kDa peroxisomal membrane protein, in conjunction with protein-A colloidal gold. Moderately to markedly enlarged, flocculent peroxisomes were found in both patients. In one patient they were very heterogeneous with regard to the number per hepatocyte. The peroxisomes had very low levels of catalase as indicated by cytochemistry and immunocytochemistry. The three β-oxidation enzymes were localised normally within the peroxisomes. The 68 kDa membrane protein was localised to the peroxisomal membranes. Some extra membrane loops were also identified using this antibody.

Notes: [Auszug] ONE form of the mass-energy cycle is shown in Fig. 1. Experimental support for the cycle comes from the fact that all known particles of lower energy may be created from a 10-BeV electron. The only particle interactions allowed by the cycle which have not been observed experimentally are the ...

Notes: The validity of the usual normative scoring method for the Gordon Personal Profile (GPP), a forced-choice personality test, was compared to the validity of an ipsative scoring method devised for this test. The criteria used were different aspects of sales performance over a three-year period for a sample of 130 data processing machine salesmen. One of the ipsative traits, Sociability, correlated negatively (—.34) with a continuous sales production criterion (n= 90) and showed a significant difference in proportions between a top producing and promoted group (n= 44) and a low producing and separated group (n= 42). None of the normative GPP trait scores was significantly related to either criterion. The distributions of GPP ipsative traits differed significantly for men rated highest on performance in the company sales training program (n= 55) and men in the top producing and promoted group (n= 44). The top salesmen had fewer men high on Sociability and more men high on Responsibility than the top training group. These findings suggested the need for a re-examination of the company's sales training and recruiting personality stereotype in view of the significant proportion of men employed who were high on Sociability and whose chances of becoming top producing salesmen were poor.

Notes: 〈list xml:id="l1" style="custom"〉1The validity of various types of tests for selecting card punch operators is reviewed.2A new test for the selection of card punch operators, the Card Punch Aptitude Test (CPAT) is described. It consists of two parts, letter-digit substitution and name checking. Letter grade norms for female operators are available.3For five samples of operator trainees totaling 532 cases, the CPAT had validities of .23 to .44 with training course letter grades. For three samples of employed operators totaling 89 cases, the CPAT correlated .45, .50, and .67 with supervisor ratings.

Notes: This study sought to determine whether the Short Employment Tests (SET) were as discriminating as the General Clerical Test (GCT) in selecting and classifying two groups of office workers with different educational backgrounds.Group I was composed of male and female clerical and other office applicants who were mainly high school graduates. This group was given the GCT and the vocabulary, numerical, and clerical sub-tests of the SET. Group II included male and female secretarial and stenographic applicants most of whom had business school or college training beyond high school. These applicants took the verbal section of the GCT and the verbal sub-test of the SET.For the clerical applicants, the correlation (.87) between the GCT and the SET total scores indicated that the SET could satisfactorily replace the GCT in the selection procedure and reduce test administration time. For the secretarial and stenographic applicants, the correlation between the GCT-B (Verbal) and SET Verbal was .77. The GCT-B differentiated more finely throughout the entire score range among these better educated applicants than the SET Verbal, which was too easy a test for this group. However, the SET Verbal appeared to be useful as a rough screen for eliminating the poorest applicants. No validity data are reported.
