Notes: In this paper finite-dimensional Lorentz covariant bifurcation equations are constructed and their properties, solutions, and gradient structures are examined. The possible applications of these ideas and techniques to elementary particle physics are considered.

Notes: Using methods analogous to those introduced by Gel'fand et al. [Representations of the rotation and Lorentz Groups and Their Applications (Pergamon, New York, 1963)] for the Lorentz group the matrix elements for the representations of the Lie algebra of the Euclidean group in three dimensions E(3) are explicitly derived. These results are then used to construct invariant equations with respect to this group and to show, in particular, that the nonrelativistic analog to the Dirac equation is not unique.

Notes: It is shown that the classical Infeld–Hull factorization method can be extended to coupled systems of second-order equations. A complete solution of the factorization equations in two dimensions is given and a partial enumeration of factorizable systems is made.

Notes: How the optimal choice of the filter function in large eddy simulations is related to the spectrum of the turbulent flow is shown. A new formula for the subgrid residuals, which ensures that the exact and filtered flow have the same energy decay profile, is also derived.

Notes: Abstract We examine the algebraic meaning of the Electromagnetic gauge invariance and show that it leads to the new concepts of gauged operators, gauged representations and hence to infinite dimensional extensions of Lie algebras. In particular we prove that the generalized Bondi-Metzner algebra can be interpreted as a gauged Lorentz algebra related to the Electromagnetic gauge.

Notes: We describe the implementation of a new 3D vortex algorithm for the computation of the drag and flow field around parachutes. Among its novel features, the algorithm couples large eddy simulation methodology with the vortex method, away from the wall region. Furthermore, boundary conditions for a wall (no-slip) and compliant boundaries were implemented. The results of several simulations using this algorithm are analysed and discussed. The spectral contents of the vortex method are also considered.
