Dimerie Hemiacetals of 1,6-Anhydrohexosuloses, III1) Preparation and Structure Elucidation of Dimerie Hemiacetals of 1,6-Anhydro-β-D-ribo-hexosulopyranosesCleavage of 1,6; 2,3-dianhydro-4-O-benzoyl-β-D-mannopyranose (6) by neighboring group participation yields exclusively the 4-O-benzoyl derivative 8, from which the free 1,6-anhydro-β-D-altropyranose (9) is prepared. Reaction of 9 with acetone and sulfuric acid gives the known isopropylidene derivative 10. Similarly, 1,6-anhydro-β-D-allopyranose (13) yields an easily separable mixture of the 3,4- and 2,3-O-isopropylidene compounds 12a and 15. Analogously, 1,6-anhydro-β-D-gulopyranose (16) yields 17. - RuO4 oxidation of compounds 10 and 12a or 15 and 17 yields the ketones 11 and 18, respectively. By removal of the isopropylidene residues from this ketones the free uloses 1 and 2 with ribo-configuration are prepared, which are isolated and characterized as crystalline, unsymmetrically linked dimerie hemiacetals 14 and 19.
Notes:
