Notizen: Abstract The sorption of metal ions (Pb2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+) and soil humic acids (HA) from aqueous solutions onto mineral particles (sand, calcite and clay) was investigated using a batch equilibrium system. The sorption reactions in two- component systems (heavy metals-mineral particles and humic acids- mineral particles), as well as interactions in three-component system (heavy metals-humic acids-mineral particles) were examined. Results showed that the presence of humic acids, dissolved or bound onto mineral surfaces, considerably influenced the fixation of heavy metals. The various effects, depending on mineral type, humic concentration and specific metal-ion, were observed in three- component system. Sorption of Cu2+-ions on all minerals studied rapidly increased as the concentration of dissolved HA increased. The amount of Pb2+-ions sorbed on sand slightly decreased, while on kaolin increased between 15 and 20%. Sorption of Zn2+-ions on all minerals studied decreased at pH 4. At pH 5.5 the sorption of Zn2+-ions onto calcite decreased, while on kaolin and sand increased as a function of the humic acid concentration giving the curve with maximum at c(HA) = 2.5 mmol C L-1. At pH 6.5 sorption onto kaolin and sand increased. This effect occurs as a result of the conditional stability constant of Zn-HA complexes increasing at higher pH which in turn promotes the chelation of Zn2+-ions to mineral- bound humic substances. The enhanced sorption of metal ions from the aqueous phase in three-component systems is not only the result of mineral sorption of free metals but also the result of chelation with HA sorbed on the mineral surface.

Notizen: Summary The dependence of band spreading on the development time and the applied quantity was measured. The width at half height of the chromatographic peaks obtained after 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes development were measured. It is shown that the dependence of band spreading on time follows a square function. On the other hand, band spreading was found to be related to the logarithm of the square root of the applied quantity.

Notizen: Summary A TLC method for the separation of quantitative determination of copper and iron in cotton material is described. The optimal solvent system is 9:2:1 (v/v), ethanol-nitric acid-hydrochloric acid and the locating reagent is Na-diethyldithiocarbamate. Regression analysis shows that the most precise results can be obtained for the concentration range of 0.0400–0.0800 mg/ml of iron and copper.

Notizen: Summary A TLC method for the fast detection of copper, iron and managanese ions in cotton materials is described. The optimal solvent system is 8∶1∶2 (v/v), acetone: HCl:H2O and the locating reagent is rubeanic acid followed by exposure to ammonia vapour. It was found that in cotton materials, metal ions can be detected at a lower limit of 20 μg per gram of material.

Notizen: Summary Quantitative determination of iron, copper and manganese in woollen material by means of thin layer chromatography is described. The fabric sample was combusted and the residue dissolved in HCl (1∶1). The optimal separation on cellulose was achieved with the solvent system ethanol+1-butanol+HCl+H2O (60∶30∶5∶5, v/v). Locating reagent was sodium diethyldithiocarbaminate (used as 5% ethanol solution). It was found that in woollen cloth iron, copper and manganese could be detected down to 20 μg per gram of material.

Notizen: Summary Waste waters of film processing plants are rich with silver. Part of the silver is regenerated electrochemically, but the rest (0.5 g) remains in waste waters and is sent to sewers. This is a bad politic from both the environmental (toxic waste waters) and the economical point of view (a waste of silver). In this work, the silver was isolated by ion-exchange resins and then concentrated by microorganisms. For exchange of silver, Ionenaustauscher I, II and IV were used. The batch method was used to obtain a static equilibrium. Silver elution from exchangers is based on silver transformation to a stable cation or anion complex. By varying the ligands, pH and eluent concentrations, optimum elution is found at 1 mol/l Na2S2O3, 1 mol/l NH3, 2 mol/l HNO3 and 1 mol/l (NH2)2CO. The concentration of silver in the eluent is about 50 mg/l. The silver ion uptake from solutions after ion exchange by mixed bacterial culture isolated from photographic waste water drain and pure bacterial cultures Escherichia coli 3009 and Bacillus subtilis 3053. was studied. Experiments were carried out in submerse culture at pH 7 with different Ag+ concentrations (4, 8 and 40 mg/l) on a rotary shaker (100 rpm) at 37°C. At the lower Ag+ concentrations a good growth and simultaneous removal of Ag+ from the solutions was achieved. At Ag+ concentration of 40 mg/l growth and removal of Ag+ by mixed and pure culture differed significantly. Thus mixed bacterial culture grew well and at the same time removed efficiently Ag+ (approximately 90%) from medium. Pure bacterial cultures on the contrary were unable to grow at 40 mg/l Ag+, though their biomass showed to be an effective biosorbent for Ag+ (approximately 80% of Ag+ removal).
