Summary The methods given in the literature usually are not concerned with the determination of selenium in small quantities of seleniferous organic materials. We have developed a method of mineralization which is based on the destruction of the organic matter by nitro-perchloric acid. Part of the selenium is entrained by the vapors, but this is caught in distilled water trap. The selenium is reduced, in a strongly acid medium, by sulfur dioxide. It is filtered, and weighed as black selenium, according to the classic method especially to the liquid obtained by this method of attack. The procedure is rapid and gives results within about ± 1%.
