Notes: Summary In order to factorize an indefinite symmetric matrixG of the formG=LDL T whereL is a trivially invertible matrix andD is a diagonal matrix, we introduce a new kind of pivoting operation. The algorithm suggested maintains the stability and efficiency of the standard Cholesky decomposition whileG need not be positive definite. The problem of factorizingG+αuu T whereu is a vector, α scalar and the factors ofG are known, is also discussed.

Notes: Abstract Ordinary iteration schemes for solving linear algebraic equations are one-step, i.e., only the last iterant is used in order to compute the following one. This note advocates the use of several iterants by means of least-square acceleration. The resulting scheme is easy to implement and is very effective in cases where the basic iteration matrix is close to symmetric. The note provides theoretical estimates for the rate of convergence as well as a numerical example. The example deals with the numerical solution of Poisson's equation in a rectangular annulus, by five-point formulae, using the alternating-direction method.

Notes: This paper implements a numerical solution of the equations of compressible flow, by a transport method. The model is based on a kinetic model, built for the fluid motion. It transforms the equations of motion into integral equations, solved by an analytical-numerical method. Precomputation of tables for some canonical integrals reduces the amount of work. A boundary value problem (flow into a wedge) is treated and numerical solutions are exhibited. The paper deals with isentropic flow. It is an important special case, among the variety of problems where the assumption of constant entropy causes a negligible error.
