Notes: Summary The flow of layers of different heights of n incompressible immiscible fluids between two plates has been considered and it has been shown that whatever be the number of fluids and whatever be their heights, a unique velocity maximum always exists and a formula for finding the layer in which this maximum occurs has been given. For the particular case of two layers it has been shown that the curve of total flux against the ratio of the heights of the fluids has always a point of inflexion. Further this ratio has been determined so that the fluxes of the two fluids are equal.

Notes: Summary In this paper, two dimensional boundary layer equations for Reiner-Philippoff fluids have been obtained for the two limiting cases when the shear stress parameter is small or large. These equations have been integrated using Karman-Pohlhausen's method in the inlet of a straight channel. Analytical expressions for the inlet length and the boundary layer thickness in both cases have been obtained. The pressure drop has also been obtained from kinetic energy end-correction.

Notes: Summary In a recent paper, Jain and Sodha 1) have discussed the internal ballistics of a supergun (Hochdruckpumpe) designed by Coenders 2) during the second world war. In the present paper it is shown that their theory is the same as that for the burning of moderated charges in an orthodox gun (Kapur 3) 4)) and that their implicit assumption of the powder in the rth chamber being ignited only when the powder in the first (r−1) chambers has been completely burnt out is not likely to lead to an efficient supergun. An alternative theory without this restriction and including their theory as a particular case is discussed and its relation with the general theories of composite and moderated charges (Kapur 3) 4) 5) 6) 7)) is given.

Notes: Summary The concept of superposability of hydromagnetic flows has been discussed by Kapur1). In the present paper, we have used the results of that paper to discuss: (i) superposability of wave motions, (ii) hydrostatic equilibrium of magnetic stars, (iii) effects of viscosity in axially symmetric hydromagnetic flows, (iv) axially symmetric force-free fields, (v) general force-free fields.

Notes: Summary Theoretical calculations are carried out for the steady laminar incompressible flow of an ordinary viscous fluid in a curved annulus. At first the flow parameters are evaluated for the general case and then a particular example is solved numerically. The graphical representations of the flowline in the plane of symmetry and the projection of the stream-lines on a normal section are given. Only the case of large radius of curvature of the annulus is considered; more precisely this means that the ratio of the radius of the outer curved pipe to that of the circle in which the common axis of the two curved pipes is coiled is sufficiently small.

Notes: Summary In the present paper, to study the non-linear terms in hydromagnetics, the concept of superposability or additivity of two hydromagnetic flows has been defined, and it has been shown that force-free fields (Chandrasekhar) and self-superposable fluid flows (Strang) are particular cases of this concept. Chandrasekhar's equations for axially symmetric hydromagnetic flows have been extended to viscous fluids, and it has been shown that some important results for non-viscous flows need not hold for viscous fluids.
