Un système cohérent est ici proposé comme le prototype d'une approche véritablement scientifique. Le modèle utilisé est celui du système de coordonnées géographiques du globe terrestre: un schéma est créé, comportant des ≪ lignes de latitude ≫ représentées par des chiffres, et des ≪ lignes de longitude ≫ verticales, représentées par des lettres. Pour conserver une analogie avec le système métrique, la grille est divisée en 100 lignes parallèles transversales, et 10 lignes verticales, sur chaque hémi-corps ou chaque membre peut être représenté avec concision, par des coordonnées comportant la combinaison de 1 ou 2 chiffres, associés à 1 ou 2 lettres. Quelques autres symboles usuels, utilisés en association avec les coordonnées, peuvent étendre l'utilisation du système de cette grille à la détermination précise de lignes de surface, de vecteurs internes au corps, de toute sorte de plan et de tout volume à l'intérieur ou à l'extérieur du corps. La grille est idéale pour un traitement informatique. Avec un ≪ corps ≫ idéal entièrement coordonné, puis introduit dans une banque de données informatisées, nous serons prêts à l'avènement de l'automatisation totale de nombreux actes médicaux ou chirurgicaux. Un système universel, tel que celui que nous proposons, est un besoin urgent, si, dans le futur, la médecine est capable de relever le défi qui lui est fait par les progrès spectaculaires de la technologie de pointe.
    Notes: Summary Specific localization in surface and topographical anatomy has always been on the basis of random, arbitrarily selected and unsystematized criteria. A coherent scheme is proposed as a prototype of a truly scientific approach. Using the earth's geographic coordinate system as a model, a similar lattice pattern of numbered transverse “lines of latitude” and lettered vertical “lines of longitude” was devised for the human body. To preserve metric consonance the grid was decimalized with 100 parallel transverse lines on the entire body and 10 essentially parallel vertical lines on any half of the body or on any limb. A body surface point can be symbolized by a very concise coordinate consisting of a combination of one or two numbers with one or two alphabetic letters. A few other very common everyday symbols used in conjunction with coordinates can vastly extend utility of the grid system to the precise determination of body surface lines, penetrating vectors, every kind of conceivable plane, and every spatial volume in and outside the body in any aspect desired. The grid is ideal for computerization. With a thoroughly coordinated ideal “body” thus committed to computer memory banks for random access at will, the stage will have been set for the advent of total automation of many medical and surgical procedures. Some kind of universal system as proposed is urgently needed if in the future medicine is to successfully meet the awesome challenge thrust upon it by the spectacular achievements of high technology.

    Notes: The dynamics of a relativistic electron in the field configuration consisting of a constant-amplitude helical-wiggler magnetic field, a uniform axial magnetic field, and the equilibrium self-fields is described by a near-integrable three-degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian system. The system is solved asymptotically for small ε by the method of averaging, where ε measures the strength of the self-fields. Because the Hamiltonian does not depend on one of the coordinates, it immediately reduces to a two-degree-of-freedom system. For ε=0, this reduced system is integrable, but is not in standard form. The action-angle transformation to standard form is derived explicitly in terms of elliptic functions, thus enabling the application of the averaging procedure. For almost all regular electron trajectories the solution is explicitly derived in asymptotic form and an adiabatic invariant is constructed, both results are in a form that remains uniformly valid over the time interval for electrons to transit the laser. The analytical results are verified by numerical calculations for an example problem. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.
