Summary 1. Feasibility has been established for complexing n-pentane with urea and the use of this method to extract n-pentane from its mixtures with isopentane. The resulting complex is characterized by weak bonds between components. 2. Optimal conditions have been determined, giving the greatest degree of extraction of n-pentane into the urea complex. 3. The feedstock composition has been shown to influence the degree of extraction of n-pentane into the complex with urea: when the feedstock is richer in isopentane, the degree of n-pentane extraction increases. 4. The method of enriching pentane mixtures in isopentane by successive removal of n-pentane through complexing with urea may be used as the basis for a commercial process to recover isopentane and n-pentane from mixed pentane cuts of naphthas and gas condensates.
