Summary As a model for adsorbents of large surface area and spherical as well as porous grains a special preparation of silicagel has been developed. In order to demonstrate the experimental procedure two separated steps were realised: First the incomplete hydrolysis on a monomolecular ester of silicic acid into a mixture of macromolecular polyesters with high viscosity. Secondly emulgation of this mixture in water-alcohol and catalytic hydrolysis into silicagel in the form of xerogel with spherical glasslike grains. The conditions for both steps were normed. Descriptions are given of the packing of the spherical grains in separation-columns, of the poresystem in the interior of the grains and finally of the Chromatographic functions with the example of the isomeres 2-, 3-, 4-nitrophenols.
