The paper describes investigation of possibilities of generation of selective transferphenomenon in sliding friction couples that consist of copper cooperating with steel in glycerol, which serves as model liquid that promotes this phenomenon. Several types of copper employed forproduction of electric traction wires were used for samples cooperating with samples made of carbonsteel. Tribological tests carried out at stepwise increasing load demonstrated that in this type ofcouples (copper-steel instead copper alloy-steel) the selective transfer phenomenon can occur withintensity depending on slight differences in content of additives and impurities present in copper
