Description / Table of Contents: Films from Mass-PVC and VC/CO-Copolymers have been irradiated under conditions of air and oxygen using a high-pressure mercury lamp. Dehydrochlorination, discoloration and photooxidation have been recorded. Oxygen had a retarding effect on the dehydrochlorination reaction and altered the rate of discoloration. The photooxidation was found to have a higher activation energy (of 21 kJ mol-1) compared to the photoelimination. This leads to a temperature dependant competition between the two processes.
