Description / Table of Contents:
The preparation of cyclopentadienyl chromium(III) halogeno-complexes of the type C5H5CrHal2 · Donor (Hal = Cl, Br, J; Donor = pyridine, tetrahydrofuran, triphenyl phosphine, e. g.) from suitable systems is described. The complexes being soluble in polar organic solvents exhibit three unpaired electrons belonging to the central sexivalent Cr(III). Like in ferrocene, the cyclopentadienyl ring is π-bonded.
Notes:
The deep-blue solutions forming on interaction between Cr(C5H5)2 and hydrochloric or hydrobromic acid contain the anions [C5H5CrHal3]- which have been isolated as NH4-salts.
