Notes: Abstract – The maintenance of healthy periodontal ligament cells in the donor tooth is one of the most important factors for successful tooth transplantation. This is achieved by minimizing the extra-oral time during the surgical procedure. If a duplicate form of donor tooth could be obtained before extraction, it would be possible to precontour the recipient alveolar bone compatible with the donor tooth, and thereby reduce the extra-oral time of the donor tooth. We obtained a three-dimensional image with the real dimensions of the donor tooth from a CT Highspeed AdvantageTM, allowing a life-sized resin model of the tooth to be fabricated. From 22 clinical cases, we achieved an average total transplantation time of 7.7 min. The average distance between the transplanted root surface and the alveolar bone from 12 available cases was 0.87 mm at the mesial cervix, 0.91 mm at the mesial apex, 0.98 mm at the distal cervix and 1.16 mm at the distal apex on the postoperative radiographs. Clinical data indicate that computer-aided rapid prototyping may be of value in minimizing the extra-oral time and possible injury to transplanted tooth during the process of autotransplantation.

Notes: Slowly cooled Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4 has been investigated over a temperature range from 13 to 880 K using the Mössbauer technique. X-ray diffraction shows that it has an inverse spinel structure and a lattice constant of a=8.346±0.005 A(ring). The Mössbauer spectra that are laid less overlapping at low temperature have been fitted with two sextets in the ferrimagnetic state. The iron ions at both A (tetrahedral) and B (octahedral) sites are found to be in ferric high-spin states. Its Néel temperature TN is found to be 865±3 K. As the temperature increases toward TN a more overlapping effect of the six-line patterns in A and B sites is observed and interpreted to have originated from different temperature dependencies of the magnetic hyperfine fields at A and B iron sites. Assuming that A–B magnetic interactions are stronger than A–A and B–B interactions, we have calculated the hyperfine fields at the A and B iron sites in ionic distribution (Fe)A[Ni0.5Co0.5Fe]BO4 as a function of temperature. The theoretical Mössbauer spectra from the above calculated hyperfine fields are obtained and compared with experimental spectra. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract Water-soluble and ultraviolet (UV)-curable urethane acrylate anionomers containing dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA) were synthesized with varying molecular weight of soft segment and degree of neutralization. The ion group incorporated was confirmed by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra. In viscosity measurements, the enhancement of viscosity was achieved with increasing of ionic strength or pH of the solution. However, when the molecular weight of soft segment was high, the viscosity little changed for given parameters. This indicates that the strong hydrophobic interaction caused by the long soft segment made the anionomer chain aggregate. The UV coating properties of urethane acrylate anionomer films were depended on the molecular weight of soft segment and the degree of neutralization. For the films of high ion content and low molecular weight of soft segment, the tensile strength had a tendency toward increasing, on the contrary, for the films of low ion content and high molecular weight of soft segment, the tensile strength displayed reverse tendency. However, compared with general urethane acrylate films, overall coating properties were significantly improved. This was believed that the ionic groups acted as reinforcing filler by means of the phase separation from the crosslinked urethane acrylate network.
