    Notes: Summary The results obtained by concomitent inoculation of four kinds of homologous sera or blood into Wistar and Long Evans rats grafted with Jensen tumors are analysed as regards taking and growth of the grafts. The four kinds are: 1. serum from rats naturally resistant to Jensen graft (R1); 2. serum from rats that became resistant to Jensen graft after the initial tumor graft was excised (R2); 3. serum from normal sensitive rats (S); 4. serum from tumorbearing rats in an advanced stage of development (B). Experiments were repeated four times. All sera proved to stimulate tumor takes and growth, but that effect was more obvious with the serum or blood from rats naturally resistant to Jensen tumor (R l ). The results are discussed.

    Notes: Summary By two subcutaneous or intramuscular injections of 20-methylcholanthrene (MC), 5 mg/animal in vegetal oil, followed after 74 days by 10 mg of MC emulsion, sarcomata were obtained in 63.6% of Jensen sarcoma-resistant rats (R) and in 36.8% of Jensen sarcoma-sensitive rats (S). One of the induces sarcomas, transplanted from R to R and then to S rats, presented a very high antigenicity: it strongly immunised receptive rats against the induced sarcoma and also, in a lower degree, against the Jensen sarcoma. Antigenicity was maintained up to the tenth passage.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé Étude thermogravimétrique de mélanges du cuivre métallique et d'oxydes de cuivre. Les échantillons sont d'abord chauffés dans l'air jusqu'à 700–800° jusqu'à ce que tous les constituants soient transformés en oxyde de cuivre(II); le chauffage est ensuite poursuivi dans l'azote jusqu'à 1010–1100°, où la dissociation de l'oxyde de cuivre(II) en oxyde de cuivre(I) est complète. Les constituants ont été identifiés et dosés en utilisant la forme, la dimension et les proportions des différentes parties des courbes pendant le chauffage. La méthode peut être utilisée pour l'analyse quantitative de mélanges de cuivre et ou d'oxydes de cuivre.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Gemische von metallischem Kupfer und Kupferoxiden wurden thermogravimetrisch untersucht. Zur Überführung aller Komponenten in Kupfer(II)-oxid erhitzte man sie in Luft auf 700–800°, um daraufhin bis zur vollständigen Dissoziation des Kupfer-(II)-oxids zu Kupfer(I)-oxid unter Stickstoff die Temperatur bis auf 1050–1100° zu steigern. Die Identifizierung der Komponenten und ihre quantitative Bestimmung erfolgten durch die Form, Größe und die Verhältnisse der verschiedenen Abschnitte der erhaltenen Kurven. Diese Methode ist zur quantitativen Bestimmung von Gemischen aus Kupfer und Kupferoxid sowie von Kupferoxiden geeignet.
    Notes: Abstract The thermogravimetry of mixtures of metallic copper and copper oxides was studied. The experiments were performed by heating the samples in air to 700–800° to transform all the components to copper(II) oxide, and continuing the heating in nitrogen to 1050–1100° when the dissociation of copper(II) oxide to copper(I) oxide is complete. The identification of the components and their quantitative determination were carried out by determining the shape, size, and ratio of the segments of the curves obtained during the heating. The method can be used for quantitative analysis of mixtures of copper and/or copper oxides.

    Notes: Dc conductivity measurements were performed as a function of temperature on unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) and on PVC plasticized with various amounts of dioctylphthalate. The conductivity curves consist of two or three straight-line segments denoted I, II, and III with increasing of temperature. The intersection of segments I and II occurs at the glass-transition temperature Tg. The slope in region I is independent of the DOP concentration, while the slope in region II decreases slowly with an increase in the amount of DOP. No dependence of the conductivity on the molecular weight was found. From the conductivity curves, activation energies were evaluated below and above Tg. These satisfactorily coincide with those determined by dielectric loss or by electrical transient phenomena. A dc conduction mechanism is proposed based on electronic hopping favored by the micro-Brownian motions responsible for dielectric losses. These motions involve smaller chain lengths below than above Tg. The experimental results are discussed and interpreted in terms of the proposed mechanism.

    Notes: Transient currents in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) are recorded after the application of a step-function electric field for various temperatures. By assuming the Fröhlich rectangular distribution function g(τ) of molecular relaxation times, the limits of relaxation times τ are evaluated. Values of the glass-transition temperature and activation energies of molecular motion determined from a plot of ln τ against 1/T are in satisfactory agreement with those obtained by other methods. By extrapolation to T = ∞, relaxation times are calculated which are in good agreement with those from dielectric loss measurements.
