A dynamic light scattering study of 1,3,5-tri-α-naphthyl benzene in the supercooled state using Fabry–Perot interferometry is carried out. The frequency, linewidth, and Landau–Placzek ratio of the spectrum associated with the longitudinal hypersonic wave, the frequency of the transverse hypersonic wave, and the orientational relaxation time are determined as functions of temperature. The linewidth maximum of the longitudinal hypersonic wave is observed at 420 K, at which the transverse frequency becomes vanishingly small; the longitudinal frequency also changes the temperature dependence behavior at this temperature. Combination of the interferometric data with the data obtained using photon correlation shows that over 13 orders of magnitude, the temperature dependence of the orientational relaxation time follows the Debye–Stokes–Einstein equation.
