Notes:
A new chelating agent containing two different chelating systems in the same molecule was synthesized: p-(1,3-butanedione)-N-phenylglycine. Simultaneous coordination of this molecule with divalent lead and uranyl ions resulted in a bimetallic chelate polymer. Also prepared were coordination polymers of the chelating agent with the following divalent metal ions: beryllium, copper, magnesium, nickel, uranyl, and zinc. Thermal analysis data show that the beryllium, zinc, and uranyl polymers are exceptionally stable, with from 0.39-0.65% weight loss per hour at 200° in air. Four monomeric chelates were also investigated.
